CleverLoop as a clever retail business tool that also provides smart security

We were really excited to hear recently that our good mates at Cactus Outdoor were close to opening  a retail store in Wellington. This great little capital is the home of CleverLoop in the Pacific region, and is also where Cactus first started sewing their fine products more that 20 years ago.

While it means that we are likely to spend even more on their great gear (I’m wearing a pair of their Supertrousers as I type this), we were stoked to hear that Cactus wanted to talk to us about putting a CleverLoop camera security system in their new shop.

They had some of the obvious security uses in mind for small business security cameras. The obvious was store security, such as keeping an eye on the till and the stock while the shop was open, and the main and back entrance after hours, but they had another application too. The ability to keep an eye on how the shop was doing generally, was just as important to them.

It’s worth understanding that although Cactus have a great manager and staff to run the shop, opening a second retail store is a big move for them. At their current headquarters in Christchurch they have an awesome retail space with the factory on one side and their offices on the other.  In part this helps enable their approach to business that includes making locally manufactured, super durable products, giving great customer service, and having a fast R&D cycle that allows them to quickly test new products, and provide customers with the products they really want.

Having a shop in a different city doesn’t stop any of that happening, it just makes it a little bit harder, and introduces some lag time into the process, and that is where CleverLoop provided the perfect solution.

With the standard camera placements that a shop would have for security purposes, and the ability to live view any of those cameras from any smartphone, anywhere, the key people at Cactus HQ, can check on the Wellington shop whenever they want. How busy is it? What sort of customers are coming in? What products are people looking at but not buying?  Suddenly having a shop in a different city, whether it be in Wellington or West Auckland, Hamilton or Dunedin, is no different to poking your head round the office door to see what’s going on.

When the new Cactus store turns out to be a huge success, it’ll be the next step in their great journey, and we’d like to think that CleverLoop played a little part in helping make it happen.
